Okay Folks, Chris is going to faint when she sees I have written in here. I think she has long given up on me. But... today I was doing some mailings and I had to set up some new email filters and I thought what a great topic to write about.
I only discovered filters about 4 months ago and man oh man have they ever changed how I do things. I used to have tons of different email addresses and had to constantly go back and forth between my contact email and my "mailings" email. Now I pert near have them all go to 1 address.
I am able to do this without having a cluttered "Inbox" to boot! I do this with the use of filters. I will explain how to do this in detail using Gmail.
Step 1
On your Gmail menu on the left. Down towards the bottom you will see where it says "Create new Label". Click on this and at the top of the pop up box it says " Please enter a new label name:". Write MAILERS there. Then click create.
Now you can have all you mailers go to this Label or you can do the next step.
Step 2 (optional)
Click on "Create new Label" again. .At the top of the pop up box it says " Please enter a new label name:". Write there the "name of specific mailer you want" ie ( EMailHog). Then mark the little box below it that says "Nest label under:" In the drop down list select "MAILERS" and click create.
Step 3 (optional)
Repeat step 2 for as many separate mailers you want to add.. FYI when I first started I just did step 1 and adding the separately mailers gradually.
Now for the fun part.
Step 4
Copy the url of one of the mailers you want to go to the separate folder ie (bounce@email-hog.com ) Be sure it is the email address that is at the top of the emails sent.
Step 5
Click the little spoke image in upper right corner of gmail page , then select mail settings.
Step 6
Now folks click the tab called Filters and scroll to the bottom of the filters page and click on create
new filter.
Step 7
On the next page paste in the email address of the mailer then click next step.
Step 8
Now on this page check : Skip the Inbox (Archive it) and then select the box Apply the label and in the drop down list select MAILERS or the individual mailer if you have it there.
Step 9
Be sure to also check the box "never send to spam. Now click Create filter ( be sure to mark the little box next to it that says "Also apply filter to XX many "conversations below.
Now you have created your First filter. From now on any emails going to that address will automatically go to that folder and not clutter your inbox. When you want to read your mailers just click on that label and WHOLA there they all are.
As I said I started off just putting all my mailers under one label to start with then gradually separated them into about 6 different ones. However you choose to do it is up to you.
I hope you found this somewhat helpful. :)
Cheers,
lisa
